Bordalás lined up with Soria; Carvajal, Gudelj, Valou, Mojica; Kiko Femenía, Mario Martín, Francho, Ramón Terrats; Martín Satriano and Iván Azón. Getafe started with the intention of going forward, but Athletic soon took control of the ball and found a way to break down the Getafe defence down the flanks, above all through Nico Williams.

The first goal came from a set piece in the 17th minute. Berenguer's free kick took a deflection off Azón and caught Soria out for 1-0. Shortly afterwards Athletic had to withdraw Ruiz de Galarreta with a muscle problem, and Gerenabarrena came on in his place without changing the pattern of the game.

In the 35th minute Iñaki Williams latched onto a ball played in behind, went clean through on Soria and finished the one-on-one for 2-0. Getafe claimed a possible infringement at the start of the move, to no avail. That was the score at half-time.

Bordalás made two changes at the break, bringing on Andrés García and Sazonov for Kiko Femenía and Francho. Getafe showed a little more attacking intent in the opening minutes of the second half, but without any continuity. Their clearest chance came in the 65th minute, when Vivian blocked a shot from Satriano.

Athletic struck again from a set piece in the 70th minute: Berenguer swung in a corner, Paredes headed it goalwards and the ball went in off Valou. In the 71st minute Bordalás sent on Davinchi, Borja Mayoral and Enes Ünal for Mojica, Terrats and Azón, but Getafe could not find a way to trouble Unai Simón.

In the 86th minute Mario Martín was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Gerenabarrena, a decision strongly protested by the player and his team-mates. With an extra man, Athletic completed the rout in the 88th minute with a powerful free kick from Yuri for the final 4-0.

After the match Bordalás admitted the team have "hit rock bottom" and lamented the goals conceded from set pieces: "If they score three set-piece goals against you, it means there is a lack of concentration and responsibility, and we cannot allow that." He preferred not to comment on Mario Martín's dismissal. David Soria went further: "We are in a very bad moment, a moment in which the team is uncompetitive," said the goalkeeper, who pointed out that Getafe have conceded nine goals in two matches.

After this defeat Getafe remain on nine points after ten rounds, with five goals scored and fifteen conceded, and stay above the relegation places. Athletic, who end a run of three draws and a defeat, climb to eighth place with twelve points.
