Bordalás made seven changes from the side that drew with Rayo Vallecano. Only David Soria, Kiko Femenía, Jean Valou and Djené kept their places, and the coach lined up with Soria; Femenía, Abqar, Valou, Davinchi; Andrés García, Djené, Francho, Risco; Borja Mayoral and Iván Azón.

The game started at a frantic pace. In the first minute, a long ball from Valou ended up at Azón's feet, and from the edge of the box he curled a shot into the far corner for 1-0. The lead barely lasted: Ajeti equalised in the second minute after a move by Dos Santos. Azón had a chance to make it 2-1 with a near-post effort that Von Ballmoos parried, and in the sixth minute Cimignani, unmarked at the far post after a pass from Ajeti, completed the turnaround.

Lugano repeatedly found space in behind the Getafe defence. In the 25th minute, Moncada played in Ajeti, who scored his second in a one-on-one to make it 3-1, the score at half-time. Abqar and Valou were the centre-backs most at fault for the visitors' goals.

Bordalás made four changes at the break: Gudelj, Mojica, Ramón Terrats and Martín Satriano came on for Risco, Davinchi, Abqar and Femenía. Lugano struck again five minutes after the restart. Zanotti intercepted a pass from Francho, the Swiss broke forward and Bislimi fired home from close range for 4-1 in the 49th minute.

Getafe did not give up. Satriano went close from a Mojica cross and, in the 73rd minute, Mayoral pounced on a goalkeeper's rebound from a Mojica set piece to make it 4-2. The hosts then enjoyed their best spell of the game: they won a string of corners and Von Ballmoos tipped away a powerful Gudelj strike heading for the top corner. Enes Ünal, who came on in the 65th minute, finished the match with an ankle problem.

Just as Getafe were pushing, a loss of possession by Valou as the last man left Behrens alone against Soria, and the Swiss striker sealed the 5-2 win in the 91st minute. Getafe finished with 26 shots, eight of them on target, and 14 corners; Lugano scored five goals from ten attempts.

After a 1-1 draw in Craiova in the opening round, Getafe have one point from two Conference League matches. Lugano, who started with a win over Red Star Belgrade, have two wins from two.
