Getafe CF and Real Zaragoza have reached an agreement over the transfer of Francho Serrano, who becomes a Getafe player. The club announced that the midfielder has signed until 30 June 2029. The player has already passed his medical and posed for the club's official media. Getafe have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.
Born in Zaragoza on 17 October 2001, Francho Serrano arrives at the Coliseum at the age of 24 to strengthen the midfield. A right-footed player standing 1.80 metres tall, he operates mainly as a holding midfielder, although he can also play at right-back or in a more advanced role.
He came through the Real Zaragoza academy, joining the club as a young boy and working his way up to the first team, with whom he made his debut in November 2020. According to figures released by Getafe, he has made more than 160 appearances for the Aragonese first team and has two caps with the Spain Under-21 side.
In the 2022-23 season he played 37 competitive matches, 36 of them in LaLiga Hypermotion, while in the 2023-24 campaign he featured in 23 games and clocked up more than 1,700 minutes. Last season he was one of the captains of the Aragonese side.
His departure comes after Real Zaragoza's relegation to Primera Federación and amid the club's financial restructuring, as they face the new division with reduced income and the need to cut their wage bill.
The player himself said goodbye to Zaragoza supporters in a video released through the club's channels. "The moment I never imagined would come has arrived: saying goodbye to the club of my life. It has been a very difficult decision. I never thought about wearing another shirt because Zaragoza was always much more than a club to me," he said. "I hope I am remembered as someone who always gave everything for Zaragoza. I leave proud to have fulfilled the dream I had as a child: to be captain of the first team," he added.
Francho Serrano's arrival follows those of Johan Mojica, Enes Ünal, Orel Mangala and Saba Sazonov in this transfer window. The midfielder widens the options of a squad facing LaLiga which, should it get past the qualifying tie against Partizan Belgrade, will also compete in the Conference League.
