The club are keeping the free-agent route open after completing the signing of Dani Carvajal, and Jadon Sancho's name has emerged as the next on their list. With no contract in force, the winger could arrive without a transfer fee.
The obstacle is financial. Sancho is looking for a salary of between four and five million euros a year, a figure Getafe cannot afford within the squad cost limit set by LaLiga. To register Carvajal, president Ángel Torres had to provide a personal guarantee, and a deal of this size would require even greater guarantees.
Among the options the club are studying to free up wage room is requesting a medical exemption for Juanmi Jiménez, who is recovering from a long-term knee injury. Even so, that margin would not be enough to put together a signing of this calibre.
Ángel Torres had already hinted that the club would keep an eye on the market after Carvajal's arrival: "In football, what is white in the morning can be black by night. I'm always restless."
A product of the Watford and Manchester City academies, Sancho made his name at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 53 goals and provided 67 assists in 158 matches. In 2021 he joined Manchester United for 85 million euros, but he did not reach the expected level in England: he returned to Dortmund on loan in the second half of the 2023-24 season and then had further loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa. With Aston Villa he made 39 appearances last season, scoring once and providing two assists.
The England international, who has won 23 caps, was once valued at 130 million euros and is now worth around 10 million. His aim is to recover his best form in European football, and in recent weeks he has been linked with other destinations, such as Russia's Krasnodar, Roma, Brazil's Palmeiras and clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
Meanwhile, Getafe are preparing for their debut in the Conference League league phase, this Thursday against Universitatea Craiova.
