The player was asking for three million euros net until the end of the season to join Getafe, a figure the club could not reach. Getafe did improve their initial financial proposal, but it still fell well short of the player's demands.

His representatives are now working to complete a move to Arab football, where clubs are willing to pay what he is asking and even more than he wanted in order to stay in Europe.

The move was a request from Bordalás, who wanted a winger to add attacking options to a squad that is short of numbers for a campaign on three fronts. As a free agent, Sancho could have joined without waiting for the transfer window to open.

Getafe had already shown interest in the Englishman in mid-October, when the player's wages were seen as the main obstacle. Sancho, 26, has played for Manchester United, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa.

With two squad places still available, the club considers its recruitment closed until the winter window opens on 2 January, unless a particularly attractive opportunity comes up.
