Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed on Sunday, speaking on the radio, that the club has held talks with Sergio Ramos's camp. His contact has been René Ramos, the defender's brother and agent. Asked whether he would sign the player if the chance arose, he answered: "Yes."
Torres nevertheless played down the urgency of the move. José Bordalás's squad has six centre-backs, and the needs the head coach had identified lay in other positions. "It's not a position I need right now... The manager wanted wide players. But it's not too late. What I mean is that he's on the list of potential signings," he explained.
The president added that the interest in the centre-back goes back a long way and did not rule out the matter being revisited later on, even in the winter transfer window. "It's something we've been after for a while. But it wasn't the priority; the priority was getting wide players," he said, before insisting that the position is well covered at the moment.
There is, therefore, no negotiation under way to complete the signing, but rather contacts and an open door that will depend on the club's sporting planning.
Sergio Ramos, 40, has been without a club since leaving Mexican side Monterrey at the end of 2025. His last competitive match was on 6 December that year, a 3-2 defeat to Toluca in the semi-finals of the Apertura tournament.
A move would reunite him with Dani Carvajal, with whom he shared a dressing room at Real Madrid for years and who has just signed for Getafe until 30 June 2027. Ramos's name thus joins other free agents the club has looked at in recent weeks, as part of a strategy of taking advantage of the market for players without a club.
