The Heliodoro once again witnessed a Getafe triumph — the same stadium where the club earned its first and only promotion to LaLiga. On this occasion, José Bordalás's side completed a comeback in a pre-season friendly for the Trofeo Ciudad de Santa Cruz, which returned after ten years.

Bordalás fielded a starting XI featuring six academy players — only Terrats and Andrews kept their places from the previous friendly — while Álvaro Cervera put out his first-choice side. Tenerife dominated the first half and created several chances, the clearest falling to Krdžalić, who forced Diego Ferrer into a save. The opener came in the 37th minute: a cross from Marc Mateu from the left, a backheel from Pečar that confused the Madrid defence, and Víctor Moreno tapped in with a slight touch off Valou.

Getafe barely threatened in the first half, aside from an early Andrews chance after two minutes and a Davinci effort ruled out for offside.

After the break, Bordalás introduced six regular starters including Djené, Uche, Satriano, Zaid Romero, Kiko Femenía and Abqar. The match changed complexion. Uche won a penalty inside the area and Satriano converted with a powerful, placed shot. The game grew more physical and scrappy, with constant visiting fouls that drew whistles from the Heliodoro crowd.

Just as the match seemed headed for penalties, Mario Martín found space in the final third and tested De Vuyst, who made a fine save. From the resulting corner, Kiko Femenía delivered, Mario Martín headed on and Zaid Romero prodded home from close range to make it 1-2 in the 89th minute.

Tenerife, who produced a solid first-half display, gave minutes to their nine summer signings. Cervera, frustrated by his side's vulnerability from set pieces, expects two more arrivals to complete his squad. Getafe, who maintain a perfect pre-season record, face Real Valladolid on Saturday in Las Rozas.
