Getafe travelled to the Benito Villamarín on matchday 3 of the 2024-25 LaLiga season looking for their first points away from home. José Bordalás's side arrived with 3 points on the board and could not avoid another defeat that left them in the relegation zone, in 17th place.

The match stayed level until the 61st minute, when referee Pulido Santana pointed to the spot and Giovani Lo Celso converted to put Betis ahead. The Argentine midfielder struck again in the 74th minute with a finish that opened a two-goal lead for the Verdiblancos; that goal was also, as it happens, the 76,500th scored in the history of Primera División. Getafe pulled one back in stoppage time, in the 90+3, through Arambarri, who had come on from the bench.

Arambarri's goal came after he was introduced in the second half, one of five changes made by Bordalás in search of a response, but there was not enough time left to complete the comeback, and Getafe left the Villamarín without a point.

The Madrid-born coach brought on Peter at half-time and completed his changes with Álex Sola (62'), Bertuğ, Aleñá and Milla (75') making way for Risco, Yellu, Mayoral, Carles Pérez and Arambarri. Alderete (15'), Álex Sola (12'), Aleñá (13') and Bertuğ (58') were booked before being substituted, as was Diego Rico (64'). For Betis, Perraud (38'), Fornals (43') and, late on, goalkeeper Rui Silva (88') were also cautioned.

Pulido Santana took charge of the match. The defeat left Getafe on the 3 points they arrived with, in 17th place after the third matchday.
