Getafe visited Mendizorroza on Saturday 18 May, in matchday 37 of the 2023-24 season, with Luis García and José Bordalás in the dugouts.

Alavés struck early, in the 12th minute, through a Carlos Vicente goal that proved decisive; for the Vitoria-born forward, according to the club records, it was his first goal in La Liga.

The turning point came in the closing minutes: Ilaix Moriba, who had come on from the bench, was booked in the 78th minute and, shortly after, in the 90th, picked up a second yellow that meant his sending-off, leaving Getafe with a man down as they chased an equaliser.

Before that, Bordalás had already seen Carmona (11', substituted in the 41st), Maksimović (17') and Diego Rico (45', substituted in the 56th) booked; substitutes Latasa (71') and Aleñá (77') were also cautioned. For Alavés, Simeone (15', off in the 88th), Protesoni (37', off in the 62nd), Tenaglia (50'), Blanco (80') and substitute Samu, already in the 90th minute, were also shown yellow.

Referee Figueroa Vázquez took charge of a match in which, according to the club records, Javi López reached his 50th La Liga appearance (all with Alavés), Latasa reached 50 appearances with Getafe, and Aberdin made his competition debut. The defeat left Getafe on 43 points, in twelfth place.
