Getafe hosted Athletic Club on 38 points and with a need not to fall away. They left the Coliseum on 41 and with a win that was built early and closed out late.
The first blow came in the 14th minute. Luis Vázquez made it 1-0 and gave the match the script that suits Bordalás's men best: ahead on the scoreboard and with the opponent forced to come out.
The rest of the afternoon was about resistance. Djené, Arambarri and Boselli were booked, and Valverde emptied his bench with Areso, Ruiz de Galarreta, Vesga, Maroan and Nico Williams in search of an equaliser.
It never came. What did come, in the 90th minute, was Getafe's second: Satriano settled it with the game already spent to make it 2-0.
Martínez Munuera refereed the match. The day also left a milestone in the visiting camp: Areso reached 100 Primera División appearances.
