Getafe travelled to Oviedo in seventh place, on 44 points, with Athletic Club level on points just behind them. In front of them, the bottom side: an Oviedo on 28 and with very little room left. The script seemed written, and a different one turned up.
Things went wrong early for the hosts. In the 12th minute Bailly limped off injured and Almada was forced to use a substitution ahead of schedule.
And from the hour mark onwards they went wrong altogether. Javi López was shown a straight red in the 54th minute, leaving Oviedo with ten. In the 78th, Sibo followed him down the tunnel and the bottom side finished the match with nine.
Getafe therefore had more than half an hour with an extra man and the last twelve minutes with two. It was not enough. The goalless scoreline at half-time was also the one at the final whistle.
Bordalás tried from the bench and used up his changes: Mario Martín at the break, Davinchi in the 64th, Abqar in the 73rd and Juan Iglesias in the 86th, bringing on Mayoral, Javi Muñoz, Luis Vázquez and Sancris. Abqar, Sancris and Boselli were booked. Soto Grado refereed the match.
The point leaves Getafe seventh on 45, one ahead of Athletic Club and Real Sociedad, with the European ticket still to be decided. Oviedo remain bottom on 29.
