Getafe picked up their first three points of the season by beating Racing 1-0 on matchday two of LaLiga, three days after their 3-1 win over Partizan in the first leg of the final Conference League qualifying round and four days before they play for their place in Belgrade. The side, who had lost on the opening weekend, arrived at the match carrying the wear of a Thursday-Sunday-Thursday schedule.

Bordalás was barely able to change the eleven that had beaten the Serbian side, and the two alterations he did make were forced: Andrés García came in for the suspended Kiko Femenía, and Sazonov took over at the heart of the defence from Abdel Abqar, sent off in the European tie.

Getafe edged a first half short on chances, sitting deep in a low block that disrupted Racing's build-up and left both Gustavo Puerta and Sergio Martínez, the young Cantabrian who started, with little influence. The hosts' best moments came from a Terrats corner that struck the crossbar and efforts from Andrés García and Satriano that cleared the bar. Racing's only real threat was a tight-angled strike from Canales that Soria pushed away.

Sergio Martínez stayed on the bench after the interval, replaced by Iván Martín. Racing started the second half the better side and found a tiring Getafe, who gradually ran out of legs and endured twenty nervous minutes at the Coliseum. The decisive moment came thirteen minutes from time: referee Juan Martínez Munuera awarded a penalty after a tussle involving Sazonov that ended with an arm in the face of Salinas, and Soria dived to keep out Andrés Martín's spot-kick.

The match was settled immediately afterwards. Terrats and Andrés García worked the move down the right and Ünal converted the full-back's cross from close range on 81 minutes. The Turkish striker has now scored in two consecutive matches — he also found the net against Partizan — and has scored in LaLiga for Getafe for the first time in more than a thousand days, in his second spell at the club.

The other headline belonged to Soria before a ball was even kicked: the captain reached 192 consecutive LaLiga starts, equalling the all-time record held by Juan Antonio Larrañaga, as the club confirmed. Getafe now travel to Belgrade, where on Thursday they defend a 3-1 first-leg lead against Partizan with a place in the Conference League league phase at stake.
