Getafe brought their summer preparations to a close with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham at Hotspur Way. The match was played behind closed doors and in a shortened format of two 35-minute halves, and it was the azulones' last test before the start of the league season.

The first half was short on tempo and shorter on chances. Roberto De Zerbi's side took the initiative and enjoyed more of the ball, but struggled to turn that territorial dominance into real danger. Mikey Moore forced an early save from David Soria and, just before the break, came the hosts' best opening: Andy Robertson found Ben Davies and the Welshman's header was met by a fine stop from the azulón goalkeeper.

The game picked up pace after the restart. Alberto Risco gave warning with a driving run that ended in a shot over the crossbar, and Tottenham replied from set pieces, first with a scrambled effort inside the box that Soria again dealt with and then with a free-kick from the edge of the area that crashed into the wall. The Getafe goalkeeper still had to turn a Richarlison header away by the post.

The goal arrived in the 56th minute and was the best move of the match. Ramon Terrats slid the ball through to Alberto Risco, the academy graduate laid it off to Curro Burgos, ran into the space and finished first time inside the area past Antonín Kinsky to make it 0-1.

The lead lasted four minutes. Sandro Tonali found Richarlison between the lines, the Brazilian shielded the ball and it broke loose for Conor Gallagher, who arrived from deep and drove a low right-footed shot into the left-hand corner of Soria's goal.

Tottenham pushed in the closing stages, with Getafe by then heavily rotated, and ran into the azulón goalkeeper once more. The last clear chance fell to Richarlison, who headed a Mathys Tel cross from a good position without beating the keeper. The score did not change again.

José Bordalás shared out the minutes and mixed players in line for the opening-day XI — Soria himself, Djené, Orel Mangala and Martín Satriano — with reserve-team men such as Risco, Marcos Pachón and Curro Burgos. The squad left London without any fresh injuries, after a pre-season marked by Christantus Uche's serious knee injury in the friendly against Monaco.

The azulones begin the campaign on Saturday 15 August at Mendizorroza, against Alavés. Their European debut of the season will follow in the Conference League qualifying rounds.

Getafe starting XI: David Soria; Andrés García, Abdel Abqar, Mohamed Hamdoune, Djené Dakonam, Jorge Montes, Ebrahima Drammeh, Orel Mangala, Alberto Risco, Marcos Pachón and Martín Satriano. Zaid Romero, Kiko Femenía, Davinchi, Ramon Terrats, Curro Burgos, Borja Mayoral and Mario Martín also featured. Referee Nick Hopton booked Drammeh in the 49th minute.
