Getafe opened the 2007-08 season at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, with Michael Laudrup in the dugout.

Pablo Hernández scored in the first minute, the first goal of his LaLiga career. Sevilla turned it around in the second half: Jesús Navas equalised on 46, Luís Fabiano scored on 66, a Cata Díaz own goal made it 3-1 on 69 and Kerzhakov completed the 4-1 on 81.

Laudrup used all three changes early: Mario Cotelo came on for Kepa on 30, Mario for Nacho at half-time and Alberto Aguilar for Uche on 65.

Getafe played with nine for nearly an hour: Sousa picked up a second yellow on 21 and Cortés was sent off on 41. Goalkeeper Abbondanzieri, Cata Díaz and Celestini also saw yellow; for Sevilla, Dragutinović.

Turienzo Álvarez refereed. Getafe began the season seventeenth and without a point. The match was overshadowed by what happened on the 31st minute: Antonio Puerta collapsed on the pitch and had to come off. Sadly, he died three days later, on 28 August 2007, at the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville.
