Getafe beat Málaga 1-0 on Sunday at the Coliseum, in the seventh round of LaLiga EA Sports, with a goal from Iván Azón in the 85th minute. The forward, on loan from Como 1907, collected a pass from Martín Satriano on the break, went past centre-back Juan Berrocal inside the box and poked the ball past Alfonso Herrero just as the match was drifting towards a share of the points.

The win ends a run of four rounds without a victory and leaves José Bordalás's side on eight points ahead of the international break. It is their second win of the campaign, after the one against Racing de Santander, and reinforces the Coliseum as the ground where Getafe are picking up points: away from home they are still without a single point, having lost to Alavés, Osasuna and Betis.

The game began at a high tempo, with both sides looking to take control. In the third minute Enes Ünal headed the ball into the net, but the effort was ruled out for a foul in the aerial challenge. From then on Málaga grew into the match, settled in midfield and took the initiative for much of the first half, with Rafa Rodríguez running the game from the centre of the pitch and an attempt from Dani Lorenzo outside the area that was blocked by the defence.

David Soria kept Getafe level before the interval. The home goalkeeper denied a header from Eneko Jauregi, a shot from Carlos Dotor from a tight angle and, above all, a strike from Rafa Rodríguez from the edge of the box that was heading in for 0-1. Getafe's clearest opening in that spell came from a counter-attack driven by Ramón Terrats that Andrés García failed to finish off.

The most contentious moment arrived on the stroke of half-time. Dotor turned in a cross from José Salinas, but the goal was reviewed by VAR for a possible offside and was eventually disallowed after several minutes of checks. The Spanish football federation later explained in a statement that there had been a malfunction in the semi-automated offside technology (SAOT), so the lines had to be drawn manually, which made the check longer than usual. The federation added that the review and validation procedure was correct and that the goal had been rightly ruled out.

The interval changed the script. Getafe pushed up the pitch, gained ground and found in Terrats, back after missing the match at La Cartuja, the player able to break the visitors' shape. In the 53rd minute the midfielder had two chances in quick succession and was denied on both by Alfonso Herrero, who also kept out a header from Azón following a cross to the far post. The Málaga goalkeeper was Getafe's main obstacle throughout the second half.

With the scoreline still goalless, Málaga strung together attacks and corners in the closing stages and looked to be at their best. That was when the counter-attack for the opening goal arrived. After it, the visitors threw everything forward during the eight added minutes, but Soria again dealt with an effort from Dotor and, in the 97th minute, with a shot from Juan Cruz that he gathered safely.

Getafe finished the match with four players booked — Johan Mojica, Nemanja Gudelj, Francho Serrano and Ramón Terrats — in keeping with the number of cards they have been picking up this early in the season. For Málaga, Eneko Jauregi and David Larrubia were also shown yellow.

The result moves Getafe further away from the relegation places before the international break and leaves Málaga still without a win and closer to the bottom of the table.
