Marica opened the scoring in the 5th minute with the first LaLiga goal of his career. Villarreal were reduced to ten men in the 39th when Iniguez was sent off, and Sarabia completed the 0-2 victory in the 89th with his first goal in the competition too.

Luis Garcia brought on Escudero, Lafita and Sarabia; Roberto Lago went off in the 65th minute, Marica in the 68th and Diego Castro in the 82nd.

Roberto Lago was booked in the 47th minute, Alexis in the 49th, Rafa in the 70th and Borja in the 81st.
