Getafe went into the match with four points and a badly depleted squad. Andrés García dropped out at the last minute, which moved Boselli to right-back, and Zaid Romero's suspension after his sending-off against Celta was added to the absences of Abqar, Uche and Juanmi. The bench was filled with academy players. Deportivo, who had won their previous two matches, handed Marc Casadó his first start, in place of Riki.

For the first half-hour the match belonged to Getafe, who pushed Deportivo back towards their own goal with a high press. Iván Azón had a goal ruled out for offside straight from the start and had several more openings: he finished one with a left-footed shot that went wide and lacked decisiveness in another. Enes Ünal fired over the bar and Martín Satriano tested Leo Román with a low shot. The pressure lacked the precision needed to open the scoring.

The first drinks break changed the game. Antonio Hidalgo made adjustments and Deportivo returned with far more authority: Aubameyang began drifting to the right and Mario Soriano started receiving between the lines. Quagliata volleyed over the bar inside the area from an Aubameyang cross and then forced David Soria into action with a low left-footed drive across goal. Soria came to the rescue again against Mario Soriano, who had been played in by a fine pass from Luismi Cruz. Before half-time, Satriano reached the byline and cut the ball back for Terrats, who failed to find the target.

After a goalless first half, Getafe took control again. Nsongo issued a warning with a shot into the side netting, but the clearest chance fell to the hosts: Johan Mojica swung a corner to the far post, Nemanja Gudelj headed it back across and Mario Martín struck first time from inside the six-yard box against the crossbar.

In the 66th minute Terrats took centre stage. Djené won the ball and passed to him, and the midfielder set off from his own half, crossed the halfway line and left Deportivo's two central midfielders behind. On the edge of the area he played it into Azón, who shielded the ball and returned it at just the right moment, and Terrats finished off his run by beating Leo Román to make it 1-0.

Hidalgo had taken off Casadó in the 62nd minute and kept adding attacking players, first Adama Traoré and then Yeremay. With the lead, Getafe took a step back and paid for it. In the 78th minute, Yeremay received from Mario Soriano on the right flank and delivered a cross to the far post that Aubameyang headed into the net, with his first and only clear chance of the match.

Deportivo finished closer to a second goal. Zakaria just failed to reach an Aubameyang cross that went narrowly past the post after touching Djené, and Giménez had the chance to make it 1-2 in the 88th minute with a header from a corner that flew wide. Getafe loaded the box with crosses in the closing stages but could not find a second goal.

The draw repeated the story of the Celta match: Getafe went ahead at home and could not hold on to their lead. David Soria said afterwards that the team had "dropped two points" and that "at home you have to win", and pointed to the physical toll of the European tie and to a short squad. The Azulones have five points, while Deportivo move on to nine and remain unbeaten, something only league leaders Barcelona can also claim in LaLiga.
