Getafe kicked off the season at Mestalla, in Míchel's debut on the azulón bench and with Bordalás opposite in charge of Valencia.

The match was decided early: in the 11th minute, Carlos Soler converted a penalty for 1-0.

Valencia went down to ten men in the 3rd minute through Guillamón's sending-off, but Getafe could not take advantage and ended up level on numbers: in the 76th minute, Cabaco saw a second yellow card.

Míchel used all his substitutes with Duro, Vitolo, Mata, Macías and Cucurella, without finding the goal.

Olivera was also booked. Gil Manzano was the referee. Getafe start the season without points.
