Getafe CF have announced the arrival of Saba Sazonov to strengthen the first-team defence. The Georgian centre-back joins as a free agent after the end of his spell with Torino and has signed a one-season deal until 30 June 2027.

The move reflects the club's need to add depth to Jose Bordalas' squad, which faces a demanding campaign and a Conference League qualifying tie scheduled for 20 and 27 August. Sazonov, 24, brings physical presence, height and room for development to a defensive line in which he will have to compete for minutes from the start of his time at the Coliseum.

A product of Zenit Saint Petersburg's academy, Sazonov made his professional debut with the Russian club before moving to Dinamo Moscow and then to Italy with Torino. He also had a loan spell at Empoli. A Georgia international, he now arrives in LaLiga seeking continuity after a period marked by a lack of competitive rhythm.

His signing is not a new name on Getafe's agenda. The club had already tried to bring him in during previous windows and came close to completing the deal, but that move collapsed in unusual circumstances: according to the player's father at the time, Torino's paperwork was sent to the wrong email address and, by the time the mistake was resolved, the transfer deadline had passed.

Months later, the centre-back has finally joined Getafe, this time as a free agent. The club therefore adds a defensive option without a transfer fee and on a short contract, a formula that limits the sporting risk of a move conditioned by his recent inactivity but which could gain importance if he recovers the level he showed before his physical problems.
