Getafe played their penultimate pre-season friendly at the Stade Louis II against AS Monaco, a match that served as a final test before the start of La Liga. José Bordalás' team stood up to the Principality side with their characteristic compact 4-4-2 shape, but ultimately fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat in a game that left bittersweet feelings and deep concern over Christantus Uche.

The opening stages were a feeling-out process, with Monaco sounding an early warning through Biereth (min. 4), whose effort went wide. Getafe responded with their best chance of the first half: a high press from Mario Martín forced a turnover on the edge of the box, Mayoral laid it off to Terrats, and his shot whistled just over the bar. The visitors grew in confidence after that action, looking comfortable pressing high and targeting the opposition area after every recovery.

Monaco, coached by Filipe Luis, showed their threat in behind. Abline got in behind Zaid Romero in the 25th minute and found himself one-on-one, but fortunately for the visitors, his finish went wide. The cooling break rebalanced the contest: the hosts regained control and forced several corners, but Getafe stood imperious in defending their box. The score remained 0-0 at half-time.

The half-time substitution carousel favoured Monaco. The hosts stepped up a gear and began to suffocate Getafe. Diego Ferrer, the Getafe academy graduate, produced an excellent save to keep out a direct free kick in the 52nd minute, and a minute later Zaid Romero cleared off the line from Konaté after a brilliant individual run by Detourbet. The home pressure finally told in the 63rd minute when the referee awarded a controversial handball penalty against Davinchi. Paris Brunner stepped up: Ferrer guessed the right way and got a touch, but the power of the strike carried it into the net (1-0).

Far from folding, Getafe responded. They pushed forward, threw themselves at Köhn's goal and sought the equaliser relentlessly. But in the 78th minute, the game came to a halt. Christian Mawissa, who had come on in the 62nd minute, launched himself into a reckless tackle, studs showing, catching Uche square on the shin. The referee showed an immediate red card. The Nigerian, who had entered the match at half-time, was stretchered off to widespread dismay. Kiko Femenía also had to leave the pitch with discomfort in the 88th minute.

Getafe emptied their remaining reserves with determination and pride, but could not beat Köhn. The match died with the Uche scare as its unwitting protagonist. The club's initial diagnosis speaks of a contusion to the right kneecap, pending further tests. The sporting narrative was, inevitably, relegated to the background.
